With a Mediterranean climate, over 30 wineries and an abundance of activities such as hiking, biking and even hot air ballooning, the Temecula Valley is one of southern California’s hidden gems. Nestled inland, it is situated only an hour’s drive from San Diego and 90 minutes from Los Angeles.
The Old Town takes visitors to the valley’s 19th century roots alongside modern twists including craft breweries and farm to table restaurants, where the locally-produced olive oil is extremely popular. For lovers of the outdoors, Cleveland National Forest features a trail to Tenaja Falls: a 150 feet tiered waterfall at Lake Skinner Recreation Area, where you can spot herons, owls and hawks or try the River Trail at Santa Margarita County Preserve.
The main draw of the stunning Temecula Valley, however, is the wonderful wine. With small batch vintages being the speciality, you will be able to taste a number of award-winning wines, many of which are only distributed locally. Take one of the many wine tours or jump on the winery hopper, leaving your car at the hotel to enjoy a convenient shuttle between 12 different wineries.
