A beautiful scenic drive around 10 miles long, cutting through the heart of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, is the Newton B Drury scenic parkway. Majestic herds of Roosevelt Elk can be spotted from the car or if you prefer to be a bit closer to the action, then hop out for a walk along some of the most popular trails such as ‘Ah-Pah’ and ‘Big Tree Wayside’. The James Irvine Trail is the quintessential redwood trail, a moderate hike travelling along the Godwood Creek through the forests and finishing at Fern Canyon. This is a nine mile round trip, so make sure you are prepped and take plenty of water especially in the hotter summer months. This stunning canyon was used as the backdrop for several scenes in the movie Jurassic Park 2!

Family owned and run for over 65 years, ‘Trees of Mystery’ is a popular attraction for all ages and abilities. Glide 1,570 feet up through the treetops, for spectacular views of the majestic redwoods and a wonderful ocean vista from the observation deck at the summit. The SkyTrail gondolas take around 10 minutes to ascend to the top of the mountain – apologies speed demons, they only travel at about 11mph, tops! No need to rush though, there is plenty to entertain all ages – take your time to explore the many trails such as the Wilderness Trail and the Kingdom of Trees Trail, learning about the lives of the first Americans with a collection of artefacts at the End of Trail museum and a walk amongst the largest milled redwood carvings in the world.
