In the winter, visitors can enjoy the incredible slopes either skiing or snowboarding, with many equipment rental shops available in the various resorts around Lake Tahoe. In the summer, get your hiking boots on and head up to the Rubicon Trail, starting in Emerald Bay State Park, or walk along the Vikingsholm Trail and take a tour of lovely Scandinavian Castle at the bays edge. Another great way to experience the gorgeous scenery of the area is to rent bikes and the town of Truckee is perfect for this, making your way along the Truckee River Bike Trail. Water sports also come in abundance so it would be easy to while away the days in the water, swimming, boating, paddle boarding or kayaking.
