A must whilst you are in Palm Springs is to take a ride on the world’s largest rotating tramcar, from the dry desert floor and along the cliffs of the beautiful Chino Canyon, up to the cool climate of the San Jacinto Mountains. Since September 1963, when the tramway took its first passengers, over 20 million people have travelled the two and a half mile ride which begins at the Valley Station (elevation 2,643 feet) and ends at the Mountain Station (elevation 8,516 feet). Once at the top you can take in the views from the observation deck, dine at Peaks Restaurant, enjoy over 50 miles of hiking trails (guided walks are available), visit a natural history museum, two documentary theatres and a gift shop.
