The fabulous Greater Palm Springs area is made up of 9 different towns; Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio and Coachella. Each have their own unique experiences, from the music festivals in Coachella, high-end shopping in Rancho Mirage and around 120 golf course stretching from Palm Springs to Indio – hosting PGA and LPGA tour events each year. In the 1950s, this area was the place to be for stars like Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley – today, that retro vibe has mixed with a large dollop of ‘hipster’ cool. With a relaxed, diverse vibe and extremely welcoming atmosphere, we would challenge anyone not to feel well and truly chilled out after visiting. With great shopping, amazing restaurants, quirky hotels, fantastic golf courses and a constant supply of sunshine, the city is surrounded by the beauty of the Californian desert, making it a hit with locals and travellers alike.
There is so much to do here; Palm Springs is home to the world’s largest rotating aerial tramcar, which glides for roughly two and a half miles along the Chino Canyon, taking in views of deep caverns and jagged cliffs. At the top, you will find over 50 miles of trails into the Mount San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness Area to explore. The architecture here is extremely interesting and a tour is well worth the time, you will find a combination of Spanish colonial and Pueblo style mixed with the Jetsons! (Very mid-century modern.) If you are visiting on a Thursday night, expect to join in the fun at Villagefest – a weekly street craft fair with many stalls displaying art, jewellery, pottery, paintings, delicious local food and drink, whilst talented musicians keeping up the relaxed party atmosphere.
